Proposal not to go ahead  with controversial  drinking bye-laws in Leitrim town

Cllr Enda Stenson has put forward a proposal at the Leitrim Joint Policing Committee calling on the Carrick-on -Shannon Municipal District not to proceed with the proposed Drinking Bye-laws for the county town.
Cllr Stenson proposed regular engagement between licenced traders, gardai and the local community through the existing Purple Flag committee instead as a means to address public order issues in Carrick-on-Shannon.
He also proposed the introduction of CCTV in Carrick-on-Shannon town centre in conjunction with increased garda enforcement.
Cllr Stenson said the position could be revisited in 12 months time.
The proposal will now be brought before this afternoon's meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District.
