Leitrim man named as body recovered from Shannon-Erne

Leitrim death

The tragic accident took place last night, Sunday.

The man who died tragically as he was carrying out work for Inland Waterways last night has been named as Patrick Moffatt from Drumboylan, Co Leitrim.

Sadly Mr Moffatt lost his life last night and his body was found shortly after the alarm was raised when he did not return home.

The body of the married man, believed to be in his early 50s, was discovered at Lock 16 just outside Leitrim Village.

Gardai and the fire service attended at the scene while the Health and Safety Authority are also examining the matter.

A vote of sympathy was passed to his wife and family at today's County Council meeting after it was proposed by Cllr Enda Stenson.

Waterways Ireland has also offered its sincere sympathy to family and friends.
