Progress on N5 Project

Senator Maura Hopkins on the N5.

Senator Maura Hopkins has said it is extremely positive that TII have issued approval yesterday (Wednesday, December 6) to Roscommon County Council to submit the N5 scheme to An Bord Pleanala for planning approval an CPO confirmation.

Minister Ross has stated that “TII approval to proceed to construction will be dependent on An Bord Pleanala approval and approvals as required by the Public Spending Code and Capital Investment Plans.”

Senator Hopkins continued, "I have been consistently raising this issue in the Seanad with Minister Shane Ross.  There are very serious safety concerns on this section of road.  I am very concerned by the high volumes of traffic which use the road daily.  I am also extremely concerned about motorists' excessive speeds travelling through Frenchpark, Ballinagare, Tulsk and Strokestown".

"The fact that the project is being submitted now to An Bord Pleanala for approval is very positive. It is critical that this scheme is progressed as quickly as possible in order to improve safety.  It will also be important for North Roscommon and the wider region in order to support businesses and attract investment."
