104 children in foster care in this region
There are currently 104 children in the care of Tusla Foster families in the Sligo, Leitrim West Cavan area.
Foster care is usually the “last resort” according to Anne McGloin, Team Leader, Foster Care Resource Service, Alternative Care Department. She said everything is done to try and keep children with their parents, but for some this is not possible and the child's health, safety and care is paramount.
There are 83 foster families in the region, 77 families are registered with Tusla and 6 are private. 62 families are general foster carers and 15 are relatives of the children they foster.
Ms McGloin said foster carers work with the children, the children's parents and Tusla to achieve the best outcome for all.
