Is there more than one bathing water site in Leitrim?

Swimmers at Keeldra Lake, outside Mohill

Leitrim County Council is inviting public participation in the identification of new bathing waters in the county.

At present Keeldra Lake, Mohill is the only designated bathing water site in Co Leitrim, it is closely monitored from June 1- September 15 to ensure stringent water quality standards are met.

The new consultation process provides the public with an opportunity to comment on this lake and to put forward waters for consideration for designation.

There are numerous rivers and lakes in Leitrim where swimming/ recreational activities take place, but are not designated bathing water sites.

Closing date for submissions is Friday, July 27, 2018. Call the Environment Section of Leitrim County Council on 071 9620005 or email: environment@leitrimcoco.ie
