According to local Presidential campaign organiser John Feely, President Michael D. Higgins will be in Leitrim today, Wednesday, October 24th, to meet with local individuals and organisations.

He is expected to be at The Bush Hotel at 3 pm.

Michael D. Higgins has urged the electorate to turn out this Friday, stating that this election comes at a critical time in Ireland’s history.

“As we commemorate 100 years of the extension to women of the right to vote, and as we face a critical point in Ireland’s history, I urge to use your vote, because it matters.
“The Presidency draws its strength and mandate from the direct vote of the Irish people. You choose who represents and speaks for our country at home and abroad. It sends a signal about of the kind of Ireland we want, about the values and vision we share for our country and how we want to live together.

“In the next seven years we will face new uncertainties and exciting possibilities such as commemorations, Brexit and climate change along with opportunities for social progress, creativity and inclusion.
“This is why it’s so important that people cast their vote for the person they want to speak for Ireland, at home and abroad.”

As the campaign draws to a close, Michael D Higgins thanked his supporters and in particular those who have participated in his campaign locally.
“It is the local campaigners who have had a real impact in shaping the campaign, ensuring that it has been run positively and stressing the importance of participation in this significant election,” the President said.
