Seamus O'Rourke named Leitrim Person of the Year

The Leitrim Guardian Person of the Y4ear for 2019 is Carrigallen Playwright Seamus O'Rourke.


The Editor of the Leitrim Guardian, Dr Bláithín Gallagher is delighted to announce on behalf of the Leitrim Guardian committee, that the recipient of the Leitrim Guardian Person of the Year Award 2019 is Seamus O’ Rourke of Carrigallen, writer, director, and performer.


“Seamus fills all the criteria required for someone to represent the county. He never fails to find an opportunity to remind people that he is from his beloved Leitrim as he tours nationwide with his productions.”


This award recognises Seamus’s outstanding achievements in the arts, his commitment to Leitrim and acknowledges all of the times he made us laugh during the recession. In his writing, he displays a strong talent for linking the past with the present. Seamus is not afraid to tackle all subjects with passion, compassion, and humour leaving his audience with much food for thought.


He is also one of Ireland's leading writers of plays, short stories, and poetry, and as a magnificent performer, he has close to a million hits on YouTube and Social Media for his work.


The award will be presented to Seamus at the launch of the Leitrim Guardian 2019 which will see the publishing of the 51st issue of this unique journal. The launch will take place this year on Friday, November 30 in the Bee Park Centre, Manorhamilton.
