Business owners, community groups and stakeholders in Kinlough are invited to a meeting on Thursday, October 3 to establish a Kinlough Town Team.
Town Teams are supported by the Department of Rural and Community Development. It is made up of a group of local residents and business people who come together in an effort to make their town a better place to live, work, invest and visit.
Town Team members have the opportunity to lead local developments and drive positive, long-term improvements in their community.
Kinlough has not had a Town Team, though the Kinlough Development and Community Council have been active in the area.
Kinlough has jumped from a population of 285 people to over 1,200 in 25 years. While the population continues to grow, many believe the village’s development has not kept pace with this expansion.
Fianna Fáil councillor Justin Warnock, a Kinlough native, has long been a strong advocate for improved infrastructure in the village.
“Thursday’s meeting is about putting a team together for the development of Kinlough. We have to look at infrastructure that’s needed and job creation, so the whole thing will all link into one another but if we haven’t got a town team to drive it, it’ll never happen.
“The population in Kinlough is the third largest urban area in Leitrim, we’re heading for town status but we haven’t got the infrastructure or the jobs,” Cllr Warnock said.
The meeting will take place at 7:30pm, October 3, at Kinlough Community Centre.
