Operation Transformation Walk
There were two physical walks delivered in Leitrim on January 15, from Bee Park Sports Hub and January 16, from Drumshanbo Sports Hub. Both walks were very successful and the people of Leitrim were also requested to take part in a virtual walk if they were unable to attend a physical walk. A total of 87 participants took part across the walks.
Athletics Ireland Assistant Coach Course
The course for coaches who are beginning to coach athletics was delivered in two parts. The theory part was delivered over zoom on Friday 21st and the practical element was delivered on Saturday 22nd in Mohill. This course was subsidised for participants through the volunteer supports fund. 11 Volunteers and coaches completed Safeguarding 1 programme on January 20. Sports Leadership Course
TY students in Drumshanbo Vocational School took part in the leadership award through sport. The three day course equipped the students with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan, organise and lead physical activity sessions within their own group setting.
Dance Fit Broadway Boogie
We held a fun Dance Fit programme taking place over 6 weeks where participants got the opportunity to get fit dancing to fun Broadway musical tunes in a suitable inclusive environment.
A lovely relaxing stretching physical activity programme started for 6 weeks, here participants got the opportunity to get fit moving to relaxing tunes in a relaxed positive environment. Participants are from Rehab Care Ballinamore, Tus Nua, National Learning Network Carrick, Pathways, National Learning Network Manorhamilton, Bay View, St Ciaran’s, LAPWD, IWA, Connect Carrick, Parents & Friends Association Day Service.
Girls Active Drumkeeran
Girls Active is a fun, social physical activity program for teenage girls where they get the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of physical activities including dance, sports, games & activities over a 12 week period.
Swim for All
Swim for All is a swimming programme for children with additional needs where they learn how to swim in a calm environment with additional support. Students from Drumshanbo ASD unit with support from their SNAs & teachers are very happy getting the opportunity to learn how to swim while having fun in the water in Aura Leisure Centre.
Sports First Aid
Transition Year Students in Ballinamore Community School completed Sports First Aid training. Gorvagh Community Centre hosted a Sports First aid course on January 29, with volunteers and coaches from the clubs in the local area taking part.
Yoga in Carrig Centre
Residents of Carrig Accommodation took part in a relaxing mindful and slow paced class.
Club Children’s Officer Training
A person appointed to the role of Club Children’s Officer within a club must have firstly completed Sport Ireland's Safeguarding 1 (Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness workshop). They should also complete Sport Ireland's Club Children’s Officer three hour workshop.
The aim of this workshop is to help the Club Children’s Officer to carry out their the role and support the implementation of best practice in a club. Participants will also receive a Club Children’s Officer Action Planning document as part of the training. The training will take place online via zoom from 7pm-10pm on February 24.
