Road works for Kilclare junction.
Cllr Enda McGloin asked Ballinamore Municipal District to consider widening the L3385 from Foley's down to the Kilclare junction.
"Perhaps piping the ditch would enable these works as the traffic on this stretch is increasing year on year," he suggested.
A report by the Roads office said that this is a local secondary road and the department no longer funds the council to widen roads as this is done under a Specific Improvement Grant.
The response concluded: "This cannot be done under the normal road grant system. We can apply for a Specific Improvement Grant which will allow us to purchase land to carry out road widening. Piping drains would not be the correct solution and would only be used to provide local lay-bys."
The motion was supported by Cllr Brendan Barry.
District engineer, Darragh O'Boyle said that if "you want to slow down traffic, the last thing you do is widen the roads."
Cllr McGloin said the road is "very narrow and currently difficult for meeting traffic to pass each other comfortably."
