In 2023, data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) indicated a noticeable gender pay gap in Leitrim. On average, males earned €808.77 per week, while females earned €691.67. This disparity is part of a broader national trend where earnings are generally higher for males compared to females across different regions.
Ireland’s earnings landscape shows significant regional variations. Dublin leads with the highest median weekly earnings at €793.71, a 4.8% increase from €757.03 in 2022. Dublin’s earnings are 13.5% above the national average of €699.28 and 40.0% higher than Donegal, which recorded the lowest median weekly earnings at €567.04.
In Dublin, the median weekly earnings for males is €874.52, compared to €709.75 for females, highlighting a substantial gender pay gap. This trend is also seen in other counties with higher earnings, such as Kildare and Meath. In Kildare, males earn €865.83 weekly, while females earn €660.92. In Meath, the median weekly earnings are €844.96 for males and €638.19 for females.
Leitrim’s earnings growth has been relatively modest, with a 2.9% increase in median weekly earnings from €672.32 in 2022 to €690.88 in 2023. This slow growth places Leitrim among the counties with the least earnings growth, in contrast to Longford, which saw the largest annual increase of 5.4%, raising its median weekly earnings from €602.02 to €634.62. Wexford and Donegal also experienced notable growth, at 5.3% and 5.0%, respectively.
