Meeting to be held with locals and Council representatives on Leitrim wind farm projects

During January's meeting of Manorhamilton municipal district, Cllr Eddie Mitchell proposed holding a meeting to address the concerns of local residents.

Meeting to be held with locals and Council representatives on Leitrim wind farm projects

Senior planners in Leitrim County Council and Manorhamilton councillors will meet with a delegation of people in the local area to discuss the Council’s Landscape and Visual Capacity Study for wind farms and turbines in Leitrim.

Cllr Eddie Mitchell proposed holding such a meeting to address the concerns of local residents.

“The situation we’re in at the moment in Leitrim is we have about 96 microwatts of renewable energy in place and we see proposals now of up to 100 microwatts in one particular place.

“There’s a lot of concern about the scale and size of these projects and the impact. I think it might be useful for the executive and councillors to meet concerned people in the community in the interest of good communication,” Cllr Mitchell said.

“I would like for there to be very good communication now between everybody so that everyone can support each other when it comes to making submissions on these projects.

“I don’t want people to not understand the system and process that’s in front of them,” he added.

A reply from the Planning department explained that they would be happy to meet with elected members from Manorhamilton MC and an agreed number of local representatives to discuss the matter.

The senior planner will coordinate with the meetings administrator and the chair of the municipal district to agree a date and venue for the meeting, or arrange for it to be held online if that is the preferred option.

Cllr Mitchell welcomed the response and emphasised the importance of ensuring the local community understands the processes.
