Corry Strand
Swimming lessons for children are scheduled to take place at Corry Strand in Drumkeeran next month, organised by the Leitrim Water Safety committee.
Corry Strand has long been a popular and well-loved amenity, appreciated for its natural beauty and reputation as a safe location for swimming.
In advance of the lessons, which are set to take place on June 30, Cllr Pádraig Fallon proposed that the Manorhamilton Municipal District carry out a clean up and other necessary works, such as the provision of extra waste bins at the site.
He also requested that running water be made available at the location.
“I want to welcome the swimming lessons that are going to take place there,” Cllr Fallon said, noting that over 40 people have already registered.
He highlighted that there is currently only one permanent bin on site, and emphasised the need for more during the summer period.
In addition, he requested that the existing life buoy be checked to make sure that it is fit for purpose, and called for a second life buoy to be added.
It was confirmed that inspections will be carried out and another life buoy will be installed.
Cllr Mary Bohan added, “Corry Strand has for years been a fantastic amenity,” and commended the ongoing efforts by local residents to keep the area clean.
Cllr James Gilmartin also praised the “great effort” made by locals in organising swimming lessons throughout the county.
A response from the Roads department confirmed a clean up of Corry Strand will be arranged.
“The existing waste bins will be monitored with extra put in place for the summer season if necessary,” the response concluded.
