Cllr Maeve Reynolds was elected as Cathaoirleach of the MD for the term 2025-2026. Cllr Enda Stenson was elected as Leas Cathaoirleach.
After a year at the helm, Leitrim councillor, Paddy Farrell handed the reins over to Cllr Maeve Reynolds who became Cathaoirleach of the Carrick-on-Shannon municipal district at the most recent meeting.
Cllr Sean McGowan took the opportunity to pay tribute to Cllr Farrell saying that he had "been a steady hand and rock and never got flustered. You were fair to all members and everyone who attended."
Cllr McGowan then proposed Cllr Maeve Reynolds as Cathaoirleach for the coming 12 months. "Maeve is a newly elected councillor and has a very bright future. She's a very very talented young lady."

Cllr Enda Stenson seconded the proposal and had his own words of thanks for the former Cathaoirleach. "Thank you for your hard work on behalf of the Carrick municipal district."
Cllr Farrell thanked all the members for their "patience and the staff for all their hard work that was provided along the way so thank you all very much."
There was a round of applause for the former Cathaoirleach and for the newly elected Cathaoirleach as she took her seat at the top of the room.

Cllr Reynolds said: "I'd like to echo the sentiments to outgoing Cathaoirleach Paddy. He rang the ship with a steady hand for the last year and it's my privilege and honour to follow in his footsteps."
Cllr Enda Stenson was then appointed as Leas Cathaoirleach after being proposed by Cllr Farrell and seconded by Cllr McGowan.
