Major water upgrade for area in North Leitrim as Uisce Éireann begin works this month

Uisce Éireann crews will be arriving in North Leitrim this month to deliver important works which will reduce the number of bursts in Newtownmanor.

More than 1.1km of old water mains will be replaced at Leckaun, Newtownmanor as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply.

These works will give local homes and businesses more confidence in their supply by reducing leakage along this section of mains.

Uisce Éireann’s Patricia Lowry is looking forward to delivering the project for customers, with works scheduled to be complete in autumn.

“We are delighted to be prioritising investment in Leitrim’s water network. This section of water mains needs to be replaced in order to reduce bursts and safeguard water supply. Our crews will work diligently to complete these works as quickly as possible,” she said.

“We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient, and we will make every effort to minimise disruption to the local community. We thank the community for their patience and co-operation as these essential works progress,” Ms Lowry added.

Crews will be working along the the L4153 at Leckaun, Newtownmanor.

A road closure will be required to deliver these works safely. Diversion routes will be signposted, and the community can be assured that local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions.
