Killargue
Additional measures may be considered to reduce vehicle speeds through Killargue village if deemed necessary.
At the July meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District, Cllr Felim Gurn proposed a motion calling on the MD to assess the need for speed-reducing measures such as ramps or strips in the area.
His motion noted that the issue had been raised by residents during last year’s local election campaign.
“Speeding has escalated and drivers are not having regard to the flashing speed signs on entering and exiting the village,” Cllr Gurn’s motion stated.

“This needs to be addressed urgently before a fatality occurs. Residents of the village and public representatives are being ignored,” he added.
In response, the Council confirmed that the current speed limit through Killargue is 50km/h. Gateway signage and road markings are in place to reinforce this restriction.
The Council also noted that public lighting covers the entire area within the speed limit. However, staff in Road Design will be consulted to explore what additional measures might be appropriate at this location.
