MET Éireann issues yellow weather warning for Leitrim ahead of Storm Amy

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for Leitrim and 13 other counties, with widespread rain, heavy at times, expected from early Thursday as storm Amy makes landfall.

The warning will come into effect at 6:00am on Thursday, October 2, and remain in place until 8:00pm that evening.

According to the service, the heavy downpours may lead to localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions, and blocked drains in affected areas.

The warning covers Cavan, Clare, Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Leitrim, Limerick, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, and Waterford.

Motorists and residents are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on local conditions as the system moves through.

The wind warning will be in effect from Friday 12:00 until midnight on Saturday with gales potential causing difficult travelling conditions, Debris, loose objects displaced, and some fallen trees.

The dangerous weather will be as a result of Storm Amy which will hit Ireland and the UK tomorrow.

A statement from Met Éireann said: "Storm Amy has been named by the UK Met Office. This will bring heavy rainfall tomorrow with strong winds expected on Friday. A number of warnings will be issued today, with updates as certainty increases." Met Eireann have issued a Yellow Rain warning for 14 counties. The counties affected are Cavan, Donegal, Munster, Connacht, Longford. The forecaster has warned of "Localised flooding possible. Difficult travelling conditions. Blocked drains."

Thousands of people in the county were left without electricity for days, and in some cases weeks, following storm Eówyn earlier this year. 

It was announced earlier this week that there will be three additional generators available in the the county of Leitrim.
