Leitrim County Council is seeking expressions of interest from proprietors of guest accommodation who wish to provide emergency lodging for families or individuals, as the north of the county is currently experiencing a shortage of emergency accommodation.
The accommodation sought would serve families and individuals in need of emergency and short to medium-term housing.
At the November meeting of Leitrim County Council, Cllr Eddie Mitchell proposed a motion requesting that the Council grant approval in principle for the establishment of a staffed temporary emergency accommodation hub in Manorhamilton.
He highlighted that no emergency accommodation service is currently available in North Leitrim and that people are being forced to travel long distances to access services elsewhere.

Cllr Mitchell was informed at that meeting that the Council would soon issue this expression of interest. At that time, over 23 people were availing of emergency accommodation in Leitrim.
The Council stated at the November meeting that it anticipates a number of these individuals and families will transition to alternative housing in the coming months, as a significant number of social housing units are underway and scheduled for delivery in Q4 2025.
