New wellness initiative in Leitrim invites locals to boost health and community spirit

A free exercise programme is set to launch in a North Leitrim village, taking place throughout February, March and April.

Healthy Leitrim and the Leitrim Local Authority Integration Team, in collaboration with Sanctuary Runners, will deliver the free ‘Run, Jog or Walk to Wellness’ community integration programme in Dromahair, open to everyone.

Sanctuary Runners is a non-profit movement that enables Irish residents to run or walk alongside, and in solidarity with, migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.

The initiative aims to foster friendship, positivity and respect, while raising greater awareness of the migration system. The group has been active for eight years.

The new Dromahair Health and Wellness programme will run for 12 weeks and will include tutor-led walking or running classes, along with a series of health-related workshops.

Leitrim County Council is encouraging anyone interested in taking part to complete a survey, which takes approximately two minutes.

Responses to the survey will help determine the most suitable times for exercise sessions, identify preferred topics for health workshops, and highlight any supports participants may need. All responses will remain anonymous.

Physical copies of the survey are available at Dromahair Library and The Depot, or it can be completed online here.
