Three porters from Sligo Hospital taking on unique challenges

Anthony Quigley, Tervin Mc Dermott and Shane Gilligan are three porters from Sligo University Hospital

Three porters who work in Sligo University Hospital are hoping to raise money in aid of North West Hospice CLG by taking part in the three porter challenge.
Tervin Mc Dermott from Manorhamilton, Anthony Quigley from Ballymote and Shane Gilligan from Strandhill are each going out of their comfort zone in order to carry out their individual challenge.

Anthony told the Observer “As hospital porters we often encounter patients who are nervous about a task and often we try to relax those worries or nerves.
“For this challenge we will try and put ourselves in a patient's shoes to gain insight as what it’s like to be outside of our comfort zone and to do something that makes us nervous!
“As we have different interests, we each choose a challenge to do as a team. Therefore each of us will be outside of our comfort zone during each event. The three of us will be doing each challenge over the weekend.”

Anthony's challenge is the Mourne wall challenge which is a 30km hike with 2500M ascent following the wall that crosses the Mourne mountains in Newcastle Co Down.
Shane's challenge involves a splendid evening jiving to county hit superstar Derek Ryan in Bundoran Co Donegal.
Tervin's challenge is a 10,000ft skydive in Kilkenny.

Anthony continued “We hope to do the three challenges on the weekend of 20-23th of May 2022. We would like to point out that all events have been privately funded by ourselves so all donations will go directly to North West Hospice, every donation will help and make a huge difference.
“Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.”

The trio are hoping to raise €5,000 in aid of North West Hospice.
