Training to spot domestic violence and coercive control for Leitrim salon professionals

The specialist training is being offered to salon staff in Sligo and Leitrim and it's hoped the course will deepen people’s awareness of the signs of someone being affected by abuse.

The specialist training is being offered to salon staff in Sligo and Leitrim

A programme will be piloted this month in Leitrim, where Salon professionals will undergo domestic violence training in relation to recognising the signs of it, and knowing how to respond to it.  

The specialist training is being offered to salon staff in Sligo and Leitrim and it's hoped the course will deepen people’s awareness of the signs of someone being affected by abuse.

Speaking to Highland Radio, Dr Caroline Forde from the Domestic Violence Advocacy Service, says hairdressers and beauticians will be fully informed of specialist support services available to victims: "We are undertaking two pilots. One in Ballymote and one in Mohill. The training is focused on developing a thorough understanding of domestic violence and coercive control and to build participants' confidence in responding safely to warning signs and disclosures of domestic violence."
