A warning has been issued to people booking the NCT to avoid a website which charges an additional fee for the car test.
The National Car Testing Service confirmed that it has become aware of a website which claims to act as an intermediary for customers who want to book their NCT for a fee.
A statement confirmed: "NCT wish to make it clear that this organisation has no affiliation with the National Car Testing Service in any capacity and urges the Irish public to proceed with caution and to only use the official NCT website https://www.ncts.ie/
"When we became aware of it, we posted warnings on our website, social media channels and have reported it to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CPCC), Google and the gardaí. To date, we have had minimal referrals from customers who have been impacted from this website however, we are still urging the Irish public to proceed with caution when booking an NCT and to only use the official NCT website".
A spokesperson said: "There is no need for anyone to pay a third-party website to book an NCTS or be placed on the NCTS priority list as this can be done easily at https://www.ncts.ie/ where a customer will only incur the cost of the test itself. The average booking lead time for an NCT is 21 days booking lead time statistics (ncts.ie).
"NCTS would also like to warn drivers of the dangers of passing on their personal details, such as name, address, and credit card numbers to these sites. While such information is required to book an NCT, it should only be provided when booking a test through the official website," the spokesperson said.
The price list for an NCT - full Test: €55.00; Re-test: €28.00; Cancellation Fee Full Test - €22.00 Euro; Cancellation Fee Re-test -€11.50; Euro Total price to be paid if cancelling a full test: €77.00 Euro (if not providing the required notice period).
In addition, customers can also book their NCT through the call centre (01 4135992) where they will assist with an NCT booking for them.
