Nine people rescued from apartment building after e-bike goes on fire

Nine people were rescued by the fire service after an e-bike is believed to have gone on fire in a flat complex.

What was concerning about the incident was that the e-bike was not being charged when it caught fire, the fire service stated.

Dublin Fire Service confirmed that nine people were taken to safety following a fire off Francis Street.

"An e-bike battery (not on charge) in a stairwell is believed to be the source of the fire," they said in a statement.

"Firefighters are reminding residents to keep staircases clear as they are a primary escape route." they added.

The incident took place on Francis Street just off Hanover Lane in the Liberties, Dublin 8.

Water was evident in the stairwell after the incident.

It is understood that a number of people evacuated from the building were seen outside in their dressing gowns.
