National: Gardaí stand down from car chase over public safety fears

The motorist was driving 84km/h over the limit

Gardaí stood down from a car chase on Monday February 26 in the interest of public safety after a motorist failed to stop when prompted to and subsequently drove through traffic to get away.

In a post on X, formerly twitter, @GardaTraffic said they had clocked a motorist doing 184km/h in a 100km/h zone along the N4 in Westmeath yesterday morning.

The post said:

"Gardaí in Westmeath clocked this car doing 184km/h in a 100km/h zone along the N4 yesterday morning. The driver failed to stop when prompted to, gave chase and proceeded to drive against traffic. At that point, in the interest of all public safety, we stood down."
