Revenue have seized cigarettes and cash to the value of over €40,000 in Co Roscommon, with the help of detector dog Toby.

The seizure happened this Wednesday, where cash to the value of €30,000 and over 14,000 cigarettes were discovered.

The seizure was made as a result of an intelligence led operation and following the search, under warrant, of three properties in Roscommon. 

The illicit cigarettes have an estimated retail value of over €11,800, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €9,300. 

A man was questioned and investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply of illegal tobacco products.
