Shocking scenes as JCB set on fire at protest against Dublin asylum centre
Gardaí have rushed to the scene of a protest at the old Crown Paints warehouse in Coolock after a number of fires were allegedly started on the site earmarked for asylum seekers.
Protests took place earlier this year when the Department of Integration confirmed the plan to house up to 500 international protection applicants at a centre on the site but with construction personnel and equipment now on site, tempers have flared once more.
There were clashes between protesters and gardaí on Monday morning. A JCB and other equipment has been allegedly set on fire at the site.
In clips from the scenes, scores of people can be seen behind a barrier as gardaí attempt to secure the scene. Gardaí appeared to be goaded by some protesters.
