Happier than Ever-ton: Teen overjoyed as captain makes up for postponed game

Everton captain Séamus Coleman has made one Australian teen's week as he has offered a visit to the team's training ground, following the postponement of the Merseyside derby.

Fifteen-year-old Mackenzie Kinsella used his savings to fly from Sydney for derby but it was postponed, Giulia Bould from the BBC reported.

Storm Darragh meant the fixture, which is the last league meeting between Everton and neighbours Liverpool at Goodison Park, had to be called off.

The Toffees are moving to the new 55,000-seat Everton Stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock in Vauxhall next season.

Coleman, a native of Killybegs, sympathised with the young fan in a video message on BBC and offered a visit to Finch Farm to make up for the disappointment.

“Hi Mackenzie, it’s Seamus Coleman here,” the footballer said.

“I just wanted to send you a video message to say I know that you will be so disappointed today. I know how hard you’ve saved up to travel from Australia for the Merseyside derby. I know you were looking forward to the experience, to be in at the last Merseyside derby at Goodison. So I’m sure that you will be very disappointed today. We all are - all us Evertonians. We were all looking forward to the game.

“We’d love to see you down here at the training grounds on Monday. Hopefully, you can see some of the lads and hopefully, it will make up for some of the disappointment. We can chat then. All the best Mackenzie and take care.”
