Leitrim For All open letter welcoming asylum seekers and refugees gathers over 170 signatures

‘Leitrim For All’ is delighted to announce that its open letter has gathered over 170 signatures from local people, civic organisations and community groups.

Leitrim For All was set up in response to the recent backlash in Dromahair against the arrival of asylum seekers and refugees into the community.

The open letter highlights that the county should be open to all, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or age.

It calls for including and supporting asylum seekers and refugees in Leitrim and a “warm and secure reception for new arrivals.”

It also emphasises the hardships endured by those seeking refuge in Leitrim, which warrants the compassion and understanding of all those lucky enough to call Leitrim home.

Adam Ó Ceallaigh, co-founder of Leitrim For All, said: “The strength of the response to our open letter is a testament to the welcoming nature of the people of Leitrim.

“We must now build on our words and put them into action to welcome the arrival of asylum seekers to Leitrim,” he said.

Leitrim For All can be contacted through email at leitrimforall@gmail.com, on X, and on Facebook at Leitrim4all.
