The average cost of rent per month continues to skyrocket across the country, yet according to the Residential Tenancies Board, Leitrim is at the lower end of the scale.
The latest figures reveal that rent prices for existing tenants is lowest in Leitrim at €770 per month. As expected, the cost of renting for existing tenants is highest in Dublin at €1,859.
Despite the county having the lowest average rent costs in the country, renters in Leitrim are facing constant rises in their rent. Leitrim has seen a staggering 12.2% increase in rent for existing tenants since June, the same figure experienced by Longford.
This increase follows close behind Donegal who saw the highest growth in average rent costs for existing tenancies with a rise of 12.9% since June.
The nationwide average for existing tenancies grew by 5.8% annually to €1,415 a month. However, this is still €229 lower than for new tenancies.
The situation is even more challenging for people joining the market, with the average monthly cost for new tenants coming in around €966 in Leitrim. Again, this is the lowest figure in the country.
The national average cost of new tenancies increased by 4.7% since June, now standing at €1,644 a month.
The Residential Tenancies Board say that the rise in costs are driven by demand from renters seeking properties outside of Dublin.
Unsurprisingly, the highest new monthly cost for new tenancies is in Dublin at €2,147.
