'One of life's true gentlemen' - Tributes paid as beloved Leitrim man is laid to rest

Jimmy Gilmartin passed away on Sunday

Tributes have poured in following the sad passing of Jimmy Gilmartin, late of Pollboy, Manorhamilton, Leitrim.

Jimmy passed away peacefully on Sunday November 17, at Sligo University Hospital.

He is predeceased by his brothers Pat, Michael, John, Thomas and his sister Mary Kate.

Sadly missed by his loving wife Kathleen, children James, Mairéad, Patrick, Máire and Áine, sons in law Trevor and Mark, daughters in law Joanne and Eimear, sister Annie, grandchildren Odhrán, James, Emma, Kate, Caoimhín, Patrick, Bláithín and Daniel, brother in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Heartfelt condolences were left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Jimmy, with one mourner saying,

"Our deepest sympathy to Kathleen and family on Jimmy's passing. One of life's true gentlemen."

Another wrote,

"Condolences to Kathleen and the Gilmartin family on the passing of Jimmy, a true gentleman. May the good man rest in peace. I used to enjoy chatting Jimmy when on holidays over the years about games and events from times long past."

While another wrote,

"Deepest condolences to James and the entire Gilmartin family on the passing of Jimmy. One of a kind who was always kind to everyone he met. Ar dheis dè go raibh an anam."

Funeral Arrangements

Jimmy reposed at Our Lady’s Hospital Chapel, Manorhamilton on Monday evening.

Removal from his family home took place on Tuesday morning with Funeral Mass in St Osnat’s Church, Glencar at 12 noon followed by burial in Diffreen Cemetery.
