Leitrim must turn their attention to the Tailteann Cup after New York sensationally beat the Green & Gold last Saturday evening in Gaelic Park to end Green & Gold dreams of a tilt at the Connacht Senior Championship Final.
New York twice came from behind to force penalties after the rip-roaring encounter ended all square at 0-15 apiece after extra time and with the home side holding their nerve better in the penalty shootout, scoring two as Leitrim missed all four kicks, New York advance to a Connacht Semi-Final meeting with Sligo.
Leitrim now have a five week wait for the first round of the new format Tailteann Cup where they will be fourth seeds in the competition after finishing fifth in Division 4 of the Allianz NFL.
Leitrim will be away against the second seeds in their first game on the weekend of May 13-14, which could lead to a clash with the TG4 Connacht Ladies Intermediate Final against Roscommon on Sunday May 14.
Leitrim will then host the top seeds at home the following weekend with the final game in the group against the third seeds at a neutral venue over the June Bank Holiday weekend.
The top team from each group will have home advantage for the quarter-finals with the second placed teams facing the three best third place teams and New York, if the Exiles don't beat Sligo in the Connacht Semi-Final on April 22.
If New York follow up on their sensational win over Leitrim by beating Sligo, the Tailteann Cup will then become a 17 team competition with three groups of four and one group of five.
