A Status Orange rain warning has been issued for Leitrim and five other counties as Storm Bert makes landfall this weekend

The weather alerts for Clare, Kerry, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo and Waterford has been issued by Met Eireann alongside a Status Red rain warning for Cork and Galway.

The Orange warning will be in place from midnight this Friday night, November 22 until 10am Saturday morning.

Met Eireann have warned of possible surface flooding and river flooding, as well as difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility.

A Status Yellow wind and rain warning has been issued for most of the the rest of the country from 10pm this Friday.

Donegal has been issued with a Status Yellow - Snow-Ice, Rain and Wind warning, with snow transitioning to rain, coupled with strong southeast to south winds from midnight on Saturday, November 23.

Meteorologist Andrew Doran-Sherlock said that Storm Bert will bring "milder but very wet and windy conditions for the weekend".

"Heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday will likely lead to localised flooding in urban areas and some river catchments particularly in the west and southwest, as this rain is falling on already saturated and waterlogged ground. 

"The impacts from Storm Bert will commence later on Friday and will continue through the weekend and potentially through early next week as well," he continued.
