Met Éireann issues caution over flooding and poor visibility as showers persist in Leitrim

After a night of heavy rain across many parts of Leitrim, showers are continuing to move through the area.

Met Éireann has kept a weather warning in place until 6pm this evening, highlighting significant rainfall accumulations from heavy showers and prolonged spells of rain, with the potential for isolated thunderstorms.

The national forecaster is also cautioning about possible impacts, including poor visibility, localised flooding, and hazardous travel conditions.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution when driving longer distances and to remain vigilant on the roads.

The weather warning also extends to counties Donegal, Sligo, Clare, Mayo, and Galway.

Met Éireann stated today on X that outbreaks of rain will continue to spread eastwards across the country from the west, bringing prolonged spells of rain to the north and west.

“These will ease in the early afternoon with sunny spells and scattered showers. Showers will turn heavy and possibly thundery at times in the north and west,” their post said.
