The highly anticipated travel2ireland awards for 2023 were held today at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dublin. Leitrim County Council's Tourism section received an award for Best County Tourism, including the County Tourist Office, as the public and visitors voted.
Leitrim was nominated in the top five for county tourism initiatives in the country alongside counties Dublin, Waterford, Cork, and Kilkenny in the same category.
At the event, Chief Executive of Leitrim County Council, Joseph Gilhool, said: 'We are delighted to receive this award at this year's Irish Travel Trade Awards and are grateful to all those who voted.
"This award is a recognition of the work and passion that goes into the promotion of the county and, of course, the excellent partnerships we have with our industry.
"We are continually looking at innovative and engaging ways to raise awareness of the destination and to provide world-class visitor servicing when visitors arrive here. As the tourism recovery continues, the award is an endorsement of the work we do as the county's tourism department, supporting the tourism trade providers.
The county has benefited from various funding streams, enabling it to be successfully marketed nationally and internationally, and engagement with its Diaspora worldwide has also been very successful".
Welcoming the award, Cathoirleach of Leitrim County Council, Cllr Justin Warnock, commented, "This is excellent news for our tourism sector in Leitrim. Whether it is the accessibility from Dublin, Galway and Belfast or our unique product offering with award-winning dining experiences, Leitrim offers an excellent tourism product and an ideal touring base for visitors.
"This award is a testament to all the tourism stakeholders working together to enhance the visitor experience".
