WATCH: Leitrim area's first Sinn Féin candidate re-elected as three seats remain open

Three more seats are yet to be filled in the Ballinamore Local Electoral Area

The first Sinn Féin candidate election of the count for Ballinamore has occured.

Brendan Barry has been elected in the fifth count thanks to the distribution of Green Party's Adam O'Ceallaigh's 377 votes.

Mr O'Ceallaigh was eliminated in the fourth count after the 944 quota was not met with his 344 votes. 

Three more seats are yet to be filled in this Local Electoral Area as Ita Reynolds-Flynn, Fine Gael; Gary Prior, Fianna Fáil; Roisin Kenny, Sinn Féin; Joanne Curnan, Sinn Féin and Sean Wynne, Independent, all vie for their places.

The distribution of Mr Barry's surplus 63 votes is set to take place.
