Dún na Bó, Ballinamore
On December 7, Storm Darragh swept across the country, causing significant damage along its path.
Thousands of Leitrim homes were left without power with Ballinamore being the most affected area. Power was fully restored to the remaining Leitrim residents by December 14.
During December’s meeting of Ballinamore Municipal District, Cllr Ita Reynolds-Flynn inquired if the fire service could clean the gullies in Dún na Bó estate, due to the significant flooding that recently occurred.
A reply issued to Cllr Reynolds-Flynn explained that Dún na Bó has not yet been taken in charge by Leitrim County Council, meaning the responsibility lies with developers.
The Council hopes the tender will be returned for the Ballinamore estate in Q1 of next year.
The reply also stated that recent adverse weather conditions have highlighted issues with the estates' storm drainage network.
The system does not appear to be capable of handling the volume of rainfall experienced during storms, leading to flooding.
This problem will have to be rectified before the development is taken in charge by Leitrim County Council.
“As the primary issue is the capacity of the surface water sewers there is no benefit to the fire service cleaning the gullies,” the reply concluded.
