Fond memories and tributes are being shared following the passing of Gerald McTernan of Flaughanagh, Dromahair, on Friday, December 5.

RIP: Heartfelt condolences offered for Leitrim man described as ‘one of life’s true gentlemen’

Warm tributes have been paid following the passing of a Leitrim man described as “one of life’s true gentlemen.”

Gerald McTernan of Flaughanagh, Dromahair, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 5. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Norah, his children Annis Sophia and Gearóid, and his adored grandchildren Tristan, Aria and Senan.

He will also be fondly remembered by his sisters Pauline and Christina, brother-in-law John, sister-in-law Maree, his nephews, nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews, along with his wider circle of relatives, neighbours and friends.

Condolences shared on RIP.ie reflect the high regard in which Gerald was held. “A true gentleman, through and through. He always had a smile, or a wave, or even a beep of the horn, and at the best of times, a good story to share,” one condolence read.

Another wrote, “Wonderful, kind and friendly neighbour, always a pleasure to meet, and listen to his stories about the neighbourhood.”

A further tribute recalled, “He was an absolute gentleman, and I have many memories of helping him on the farm back in my school days. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

Gerald will repose at Fowley’s Funeral Home, Dromahair, on Tuesday, December 9, from 4:30pm to 7pm. His Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, December 10, at St Mary’s Church, Killenummery, at 11:30am, followed by burial in Carrowcrin Cemetery.

A former member of the ESB, Gerald is also being remembered with affection by past colleagues. 

One condolence noted, “I spent many happy days working for the ESB alongside Gerald. He became a true friend to me and we spoke frequently on the phone after retirement. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”

Another former colleague shared, “Gerry was a great friend of mine when in the ESB and was so helpful, and since we retired we kept up our relationship with phone calls to each other every so often, he will be greatly missed, rest in peace, my good friend Gerry.”
