An injury time Max Mata penalty may have taken all the headlines in Sligo Rovers' dramatic 2-2 draw with Cork City in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division last Saturday but for Eanna Clancy, it was a very special day as the Manorhamilton youngster scored his first goal for the Bit O'Red.
The young centre-back's goal 11 minutes from the end of normal time sparked a dramatic recovery from the home side as they trailed 2-0 after strikes from Jonas Hakkinen in the first half and former Rovers academy player Ruairi Keating after 65 minutes.
Clancy got the comeback up and running when he smashed home a corner and Sligo ensured themselves a point when Mata fired home from the penalty spot after Kailin Barlow was bundled over in added time.
Sligo face a north west derby next Friday when they travel to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium to take on second placed Derry City. A win for John Russell's side would see them draw level with the Derry men at the top of the table.
On the local scene, there was lots of drama as Manorhamilton Rangers scored a dramatic 3-2 away victory in the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League against Arrow Harps. The result leaves them in sixth place in the table and they face bottom side Aughanagh Celtic away next Sunday.
Carrick Town had their second draw against Calry Bohs in the space of a week in the Sligo Pallets Premier League last Sunday when they fought out a 2-2 with the Sligo side. The result sees them in seventh place in the table, one spot ahead of Dromahair who have finished their league programme for the year.
Carrick Town face second placed Ballymote Celtic next Sunday at home.
In the Ivor Parkes Painters & Decorators U17 boys league, Carrick Town beat Merville Utd 3-2 to remain top of the table with 24 points but will come under big pressure from Strand Celtic, three points in arrears and Abbey Utd, six points back, but both of whom have three games in hand.
In the Naturelles Hair Studio Hyde Bridge Girls U18 League, Manorhamilton Rangers' 4-1 victory over Carrick Town keeps them one point clear of Yeats Utd with one game left to play, which is against Yeats Utd on Friday March 31.
