Leitrim County Council want submissions from the public
Leitrim County Council is looking for input from locals to form the Local Authority Climate Action Plan (LA-CAP) with the plan aiming to strengthen the alignment between national climate policy and local circumstances to assist in the delivery of the climate neutrality objective for Leitrim.
The plan is currently in draft, and the final version will be adopted by our Elected Members before February 23 2024 and aims to deliver on national obligations to achieve the National Climate Objective of becoming a Climate Resilient, Biodiversity Rich, Environmentally Sustainable and Carbon Neutral Economy by no later than the end of 2050.
Changing Climate
The country's climate is changing in line with global trends and Ireland is experiencing warmer temperatures with the past eight years the hottest on record and more intense weather events including droughts, storms, heavy rainfall, and stronger winds resulting in higher vulnerability and risk to the impacts of climate change within the local authority area. To tackle climate change, the level of greenhouse gases entering and already in our atmosphere need to be reduced and removed.
You can make your submission online or by post. Submissions will be accepted until 4.30pm on Wednesday July 19 2023.
