FÓRSA members are not communicating with elected representatives -Barry

Brendan Barry

Cllr Brendan Barry.

Cllr Brendan Barry asked that Ballinamore Municipal District stand in solidarity with FÓRSA members in Leitrim County Council and other local authorities across the state as they commence industrial action to address issues around job evaluation and pay.
FÓRSA members are not accepting or acknowledging phone calls, emails or correspondence of any kind from elected representatives since the 11th of September.
He also asked that, "we support their call for a formal job evaluation process to ensure workers’ jobs are properly graded and enumerated. We call on the Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien, the LGMA and the executives of local authorities to return to negotiations with FÓRSA and to agree a mechanism for progressing the job evaluation process."

He added, "This issue, I'm told, has been going on for eight to nine years."

He noted that the LGMA "walked away from talks twice this year" and said the only way for the issue to be resolved was for both sides to sit down and "talk through it."

He said that last week, they agreed to go "into talks with the Workplace Relations Commission" and said that hopefully, this would be a fruitful exercise.

He said he believed the issue comes down to "that there are people in different local authorities doing a job which in another local authority would be paid at a higher grade."
