Death of Ella McGarty takes place in Dublin

Wife of the late Packie McGarty, regarded as Leitrim's greatest ever football player

The death has taken place in Dublin of Ellen (Ella) McGarty, wife of the late great Leitrim footballer Packie McGarty.

Ellen (Ella) McGarty (née Murphy), Terenure Road West, Dublin 6W, formerly of Clondalkin and Castlejordan, Co. Meath, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Elm Park on Tuesday, March 12th.

Beloved wife of the late Patrick (Packie), loving and much-loved mother of Christine (Burke), Jean, Padraig, Michael, Mary (Commons), Aileen (McDonagh), and Eamonn.

Ella will be forever loved and dearly missed by her sons and daughters, daughters-in-law, and sons-in-law, her adored grandchildren Ellen, Áine, Róisin, Mary, Catherine, Séan, John, Davóg, Dónal, Claire, and Albie, sisters Bernadette (Donoghue), Kay (Flynn) and Mary (O’Halloran), brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and a wide circle of friends.

Ella was predeceased by her husband Packie on April 6th, 2021. He is regarded as Leitrim's greatest ever Gaelic football player and one of the greatest players of all time.

Ella's remains are reposing at Massey Bros Funeral Home, Templeogue Village, D6W AC82 this Thursday afternoon from 2pm – 4pm. Removal on Friday morning to St. Pius X Church arriving for 10am Requiem Mass burial thereafter in Newlands Cross Cemetery.
