Leitrim Sinn Féin candidates attend Easter Commemoration

Seven candidates running for the party in local elections in Leitrim

The annual Sinn Féin Easter Commemoration drew a large crowd to Cloonmorris Cemetery, Bornacoola on Sunday last in brilliant sunshine.

The oration was given by Sorcha Clarke, Sinn Féin TD for Longford Westmeath.

Sorcha spoke about Jimmy Joe Reynolds a legendary Republican from Bornacoola who was killed in an explosion on the border in Donegal on the night of 28 November 1938.

Those were difficult times and it has been a long road to the present day when Sinn Féin is now the largest political force both North and South of the same border.

Sorcha wished well to all of the seven Sinn Féin candidates Leitrim in the forthcoming local elections.

Significantly, not since 1960 has Sinn Féin fielded seven candidates in a local election in Leitrim.

One of the successful candidates in that 1960 election, Shane Nangle, passed away in Dublin just a couple of weeks ago.

Pictured above are six of the seven Sinn Féin candidates in this year’s race: L to R: Róisín Kenny, Brendan Barry (both Ballinamore Area), Sorcha Clarke TD, Michelle Brennan Shyabo (Manorhamilton Area), Lisa Mulligan (Carrick-on-Shannon Area), Pádraic Fallon (Manorhamilton Area), Joanne Curnan (Ballinamore Area). The seventh Sinn Féin candidate is Cormac Flynn (Carrick-on-Shannon Area).
