Funding of €320,419 has been announced for Leitrim Sports Partnership, it has been confirmed this week.

Minister of State Marian Harkin has said €320,419 announced for Leitrim Sports Partnership will be a real boost for sport in the county.

The funding is part of a multi-million core investment package in sport for 2025 announced by Minister Patrick O’Donovan.

Minister Harkin hailed the funding as a significant step towards fostering active communities and increasing participation in sports at all levels.

“This is an important investment for Leitrim, and I am absolutely delighted that Minister O’Donovan has allocated these funds to support our Local Sports Partnership, including a dedicated €13,000 ring-fenced fund for women in sport,” said Minister Harkin.

“Supporting active communities and ensuring every citizen has access to sport and fitness opportunities is a key priority for this government. This funding demonstrates our commitment, and I will continue to work closely with Minister O’Donovan to ensure Leitrim continues to benefit from these crucial investments,” Deputy Harkin said.

The funding is part of a €12 million allocation for 29 Local Sports Partnerships, with increased funding for Women in Sport programmes targeting disadvantaged communities, teenage girls, older women, ethnic minorities, and those with disabilities.

Additionally, the introduction of a multi-annual funding approach from 2026 will provide greater stability for sports organisations, enabling strategic long-term planning and operational efficiency.

Minister Harkin reaffirmed her dedication to ensuring sport remains a pillar of community wellbeing and social cohesion, saying: “This is about delivering real opportunities for people in every corner of our communities to get active, stay healthy, and engage with sport. I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure Leitrim receive the support it needs to thrive”.
