Ballinamore auctioneer Gordon Hughes has confirmed that he will not be seeking a nomination for Fine Gael in the local elections.
The former councillor said he was approached to run in the May elections following Cllr John McCartin's announcement last week.
“I weighed up the decision carefully,” he said, but with a young family and business commitments he has decided to sit it out.
He said he does feel there is a vacancy in the town of Ballinamore for a new councillor and understands Fine Gael will hold a selection convention for the area in the next few weeks.
