National No Smoking Day falls this year on Wednesday, March 6.
According to Elaine Cunniffe, Health Promotion Officer HSE, Sligo/Leitrim 'This year's No Smoking Day is a great opportunity to encourage and support smokers to quit. Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death in Ireland with 5500 smokers dying each each from tobacco related disease. We know that when smokers avail of free help and support their twice as likely to stop. This support is crucial to helping smokers on the road towards a healthier and wealthier smoke free life.'
Many people are unaware of the support services available to them. If you are a smoker quitting is one of the best things your can do for your health.
Stopping smoking is never easy but with the right support you can win the battle against cigarettes. Lizzie found this support helpful on her quit journey.
