Over 100 local authority houses were damaged by Storm Éowyn, the Manorhamilton Municipal District has heard.

Cllr Pádraig Fallon proposed a motion asking whether there are any plans to repair or replace fencing that was damaged by multiple storms at various local authority dwellings and sites. He noted that several local authority tenants had raised this issue with him.

In response, the Housing Department of Leitrim County Council confirmed that 114 local authority houses were damaged by Storm Éowyn, with over 70 of them suffering roof damage.

The Housing Department categorised roof repairs as urgent in order to prevent water ingress into homes.

“This was a significant body of work that took a significant amount of time to fix,” the response stated.

Other types of damage, such as to boundary fences, were deemed less urgent and are being addressed on an ongoing basis as time allows.

Vincent Dwyer, Head of Finance, explained that all costs related to the storm have been documented. While some minor elements may be covered by insurance, the Council is still awaiting funds that were promised by the central Government at the time of the storm.

Cllr Fallon also proposed that resurfacing works be carried out on the road leading to Radharc an tSeipeal estate in Drumkeeran and beyond. He remarked that the road is in poor condition and frequently used by heavy agricultural vehicles.
