Security workers assaulted at site earmarked for refugees

A number of security workers were assaulted and vehicles were damaged by fire at a site that has been earmarked for refugees in Co Tipperary.

The incident happened in Clonmel on Thursday.

Security personnel contracted to work on the site were attacked by a number of people.

One of the workers required hospital treatment and a number of vehicles were damaged.

Gardai said no arrests have been made.

Some work had begun at the site, where a number of modular homes are expected to be built.

Gardai have appealed for anyone with information to contact Clonmel Garda Station on 052 617 7640, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

They have also asked for any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were near the Heywood Road and Clonmel Rugby Club areas between 10.45pm and 11.30pm, to make this footage available to gardai.
