'Fast lane to the station' for 'Ultimate Driving Machine' caught speeding on Irish motorway

Flashy BMW's 'Ultimate Driving Machine' slogan backfires after bust on busy Irish motorway

'Fast lane to the station' for 'Ultimate Driving Machine' caught speeding on Irish motorway

A BMW driver with a heavy right foot was stopped in his tracks after being clocked at a staggering speed on a busy Irish motorway over the weekend.

Officers from the Laois Roads Policing Unit were waiting with a speed check when the high-powered BMW X6 roared past on the M7 motorway. The driver was promptly arrested and charged and is set to appear before Portlaoise District Court.

Sharing the incident online, Gardaí quipped that the car was “living up to the slogan — but not in a good way,” referencing BMW's famous tagline: The Ultimate Driving Machine.

Photos shared by Gardaí show both the luxury SUV and the radar gun capturing the excessive speed of 178km/h - nearly 50km/h over the motorway limit of 120km/h.

The social media post carried a clear message: "Drive smart. Drive legal. Stay safe." It also included hashtags like "#BMWBusted" and "#FastLaneToTheStation", hammering home the road safety warning.

Meanwhile, social media users were quick to weigh in under the post, with some praising Gardaí for their sharp response and others calling for stricter penalties for excessive speeding on major routes.

Gardaí continue to carry out speed checks across the country as part of ongoing efforts to reduce dangerous driving and improve road safety.
