On August 4, Leitrim ladies won the All-Ireland Intermediate title in Croke Park against Tyrone (3-11 to 3-10). The team has been met with immense pride from everyone in the county, with the Leitrim community coming together to celebrate their remarkable achievement.

Leitrim County Council heard today a civic reception will be held for the ladies in early October in their honour.

Cllr Mary Bohan proposed a motion at this months Council meeting requesting the civic reception.

“This was a very happy day in Croke Park for the Leitrim ladies and they made us all proud,” Cllr Bohan said.

“They’re a credit to themselves, to their managers and to everyone that was involved in the road to success.

“At the match, people were absolutely delighted with the standard of football. I want to compliment them all on their tremendous effort and the time they put into it.

“The time they take to train is phenomenal and the amount of young girls and boys who came out to see them, to see the turnout for them throughout the county is fantastic.

“I think the least that we can do is give them a civic reception,” Cllr Bohan added.

“They’re role models for the next generation, the recognition is well deserved and I wholeheartedly support it,” said Cllr Maeve Reynolds.

“The enthusiasm since the girls won has been great and this is what it’s about, that needs to be highlighted because all it is, is good examples,” added Cllr James Gilmartin.

October 3 is being considered as a possible date for the civic reception.

The motion was seconded by Cllr Sean McGowan and widely supported across the board.
