Sligo Rovers Football Club has launched a major charity initiative with Umbro, in partnership with the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI). A special one-off pink jersey has been created to support breast cancer research and mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The campaign will raise vital funds for breast cancer research and increase awareness of the disease. Both Sligo Rovers and Umbro will subsidise production costs, ensuring that 100% of proceeds from the jerseys, designed with elements of the NBCRI logo and produced by Umbro, will go directly to the research team at NBCRI. Umbro has expressed delight in supporting this initiative, highlighting the strong community spirit behind the project.

Emma Hansberry, captain of Sligo Rovers, commented: “Wearing this jersey is about more than football. It’s about standing with those affected by breast cancer and showing our support for the vital research taking place in Ireland. We’re proud to play our part in this campaign.”

Limited edition merchandise and match programmes will be on sale at the senior women’s team’s final home game of the season on Saturday, 4 October. The free family-friendly event will include a charity raffle and entertainment, with all proceeds going directly to NBCRI’s work.

Professor Michael Kerin, Director of Research at the National Breast Cancer Research Institute, welcomed the announcement: “We are absolutely delighted to have the Sligo Rovers Women's Team supporting our research efforts. Their commitment to raising both funds and awareness for our charity is deeply appreciated.

“Research is the cornerstone of improving outcomes for Irish women affected by breast cancer. The support of Sligo Rovers and Umbro through this initiative will significantly contribute to our mission enabling us to personalise, enhance, and further develop our translational research programme.

“Together, we are moving closer to our goal of improving treatment and survival for women across Ireland and around the world.”
